The rocknroll party that is the King Khan BBQ Show more than loosened up the Toronto crowd at a recent show, what with King Khan getting into his Tina Turner outfit and BBQ playing his guitar so hard that his fingers were bleeding!!
King Khan and BBQ are a dynamcic duo whose punk rock roots are greatly influenced by the early days of Rock And Roll. They first started out playing in Montreal’s the Spaceshits in the mid- to late-1990s. After the Spaceshits broke up, BBQ (Mark Sultan) played with Les Sexareenos and later on his own as a one man band. Meanwhile, King Khan (aka Blacksnake) moved to Germany and began performing Sun Ra meets James Brown inspired rock’n’soul under the name King Khan and The Shrines. In 2002 BBQ paid King Khan a visit to his German bunker where they recorded their first album together, a mixture of punk, garage, Motown and even touches of doowop. Since then they have toured Europe and the USA extensively and have built a loyal following with their raw, high energy shows. The video below gives you a sample of what their shows are like.
