Brutal Knights
brutal_sThe current Toronto hardcore scene is marked by several bands that draw on the early 1980’s California sound. Brutal Knights have been together since 2001 and include Nick Flanagan (vocals) from Teen Crud Combo and Jon Sharron (guitar) from Hacksaw. Flanagan is also a stand up comedian and he brings a lot of his absurdist humor to Brutal Knights. Combining silly lyrics with nasty vocals, stinging guitars, and pounding to melodic rhythms makes for some thoroughly entertaining live mashups. ToBeScene recorded the band live at the Silver Dollar in February 2007 when, in addition to Flanagan and Sharron, their line up was Katie Whittaker on guitar, John Power on drums and Daniella Costanzo on bass (who later left the band).

Christmas Revisted

In November 2007, however, we were fortunate enough to record an extremely rare performance of two bands in one shot, so to speak. This time we went back to the early 1970’s and revisted Canada’s underground psychedelic era.......

The Viletones Back Door To Hell
ViletonesCIUT_bw1_sThe Viletones were at the forefront of the first wave of the Toronto punk movement in the late 1970’s. The Mods Step Out After 30 Years
ModsHorseshoe_sThe Mods stood out from the early Toronto punk bands with their 1960s UK inspired mod look, intelligent lyrics, and tight shows, which often featured drummer David Quinton standing on top of his drums while playing them. (At one point, Quinton was recruited by Stiv Bators of the Dead Boys to play with him in the early 1980s.).......
